The Inspiration for a Southern Collective

The Inspiration for a Southern Collective

From my first visit to the southern region of New Zealand, I felt a profound sense of anticipation for my future. I have always been captivated by mountains and the beauty of nature. Growing up in Australia, New Zealand was conveniently located nearby.

In 2000, I embarked on my first trip to New Zealand with four friends on a journey through the South Island. I was blown away by what I experienced and have never forgotten this trip! A shout-out to Sarah, Stu, Darren, and Scott, and our magical retro Mitsubishi van.

Over the years, as I travelled the world and consistently gravitated towards mountains, New Zealand remained a cherished memory. Ultimately, I found myself residing in the North Island of New Zealand, having relocated from Singapore. The breathtaking sunsets of Muriwai captivated me, and I knew that New Zealand was the place for me.

In 2017, I ventured south and made it abundantly clear that I would eventually live amidst the majestic mountains of Central Otago. My quest led me from Queenstown to Wanaka, and eventually, to a remote peninsula where I discovered my ideal land. It was a raw, previously farmed spot in need of restoration, and we eagerly embarked on the journey of planting trees and restoring the land.

From a humble tent to a sturdy van, and eventually to a charming shed, I enjoyed every step of the journey. I named my land “Edge of the World.” Every time I set foot here, I experienced a profound sense of peace and a feeling of being detached from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. The spirit and isolation of the southern region of New Zealand evoke a sense of being lost in time. While the busy seasons of winter and summer attract numerous visitors, for the majority of the time, the area is blissfully empty.

I draw inspiration from nature and the vibrant community I am a part of. However, I am also constantly connected to modern technology, allowing me to stay in touch whenever I desire. The beauty of 2025 lies in the ability to be anywhere at any time. My mindset embraces the potential of this philosophy, and I am committed to living in a region that enhances my well-being.

The Edge of the World Collective, a well-being talent group founded in Wanaka and Central Otago, will connect individuals from diverse backgrounds. Named after my land but also symbolic of the rugged character of this region, the Collective aims to facilitate the growth and success of its members, not only in their professional lives but also in their personal endeavours. By fostering a sustainable and harmonious integration of both, we can further optimise our well-being.
