1. Our Commitment to Your Privacy

Welcome to MC².Life ("we," "our," or "us"). We are a New Zealand-based platform committed to protecting your personal information. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and protect your data when you use our website, mc2.life (the "Website"), in compliance with the New Zealand Privacy Act 2020 and its Information Privacy Principles (IPPs).

2. What Information We Collect

We collect a minimal amount of personal information to provide our services to you:

  • Information You Provide Directly: When you sign up for a membership or our newsletter, we collect your name, email address, and your date of birth (day and month only).

  • Information Collected Automatically: Our website is hosted on Squarespace, which may automatically collect technical information to help us understand how visitors use the site. This can include your IP address, browser type, and device information. We do not currently use tools like Google Analytics to track your activity.

3. How We Use Your Information

We collect your personal information for the following specific purposes:

  • To Provide Membership Services: Your name, email, and partial date of birth are used to create and manage your account for our upcoming members' section.

  • To Communicate With You: We use your email address to send you newsletters and other communications you have consented to receive.

  • To Improve Our Website: We use aggregated, anonymous data from Squarespace to monitor our website's performance and enhance the user experience.

4. How We Store and Secure Your Information

Your trust is important to us, and we rely on our platform provider, Squarespace, to ensure your data is secure. Here are the security measures in place:

  • Data Storage: All website and user data is stored on Squarespace's secure, fully managed cloud hosting environment.

  • Encryption: All data exchanged between your browser and our website is protected with SSL (Secure Sockets Layer) certificates, ensuring it is encrypted and secure.

  • Secure Access: Our members' area is a secure, "gated" environment. Only logged-in members who have signed up can access member-only content.

  • Professional Monitoring: Squarespace provides a 24/7 Security Operations Center (SOC) that monitors for vulnerabilities and protects against threats like Denial-of-Service (DoS) attacks.

We will never sell, rent, or trade your personal information to any third party.

5. Sharing Your Information with Third Parties

We only share your information with trusted third parties when it is essential to provide our services.

  • Maildroppa: We use Maildroppa to manage and send our newsletters. Only your name and email address are provided to this service for this specific purpose.

6. International Data Transfers

Because we use global services like Squarespace and Maildroppa, your personal information may be transferred and stored on servers located outside of New Zealand.

We ensure that these services have comparable privacy and security safeguards in place that meet the requirements of the New Zealand Privacy Act 2020, protecting your data no matter where it is processed.

7. Data Retention

We will retain your personal information for as long as you have an active membership or subscription with us. If you choose to delete your account or unsubscribe, we will permanently remove your data from our systems upon your request.

8. Your Rights Under the Privacy Act

As a user, you have the right to:

  • Access Your Information: You can request a copy of the personal information we hold about you.

  • Correct Your Information: If you believe any information we hold is incorrect, you can request that we update it.

  • Request Deletion: You have the right to ask us to delete your personal information.

To exercise any of these rights, please contact our Privacy Officer.

9. Our Privacy Breach Response Plan

In the unlikely event of a privacy breach that we believe could cause you serious harm, we will comply fully with our obligations under the Privacy Act 2020. Our plan is to:

  1. Contain the breach to prevent further harm.

  2. Assess the nature and extent of the breach.

  3. Notify the Office of the Privacy Commissioner (OPC) and any affected individuals as quickly as possible.
