From Global Life to the Edge of the World: MC² and the Well-being Collective

I've always enjoyed being surrounded by friends—by energy, music, connection, and conversation.

When I bought Parihoa back in 2013, it was meant to be an escape—a refuge from the intensity of a global life, building a virtual company from Singapore. I would fly down to New Zealand, work remotely, and at the same time, regenerate. The land itself became a place of reflection—a space to slow down, breathe deeply, and remember who I was beyond the next meeting or milestone.

Over time, something shifted. I sold my global life and placed my full attention on New Zealand. Parihoa became more than a property—it became a portal. A space to reset and realign for the future. To ask: Who do I really want to be? What is my purpose in the world?

A Collective Emerges

Through the energy of friends, kindred spirits, and creative souls, I started seeing the emergence of something special—a collective from the edge of the world, born in Aotearoa New Zealand and deeply oriented around wellbeing.

My earlier chapter—building ChapmanCG, a global HR search network that reached over 150,000 leaders—gave me a window into the world of work at scale. But what I began to see was something else entirely.

A new kind of network was forming—one that wasn’t just about work selves, but about whole humans. People driven not only by professional excellence, but by purpose, energy, and balance.

Matt is an accomplished entrepreneur, investor, and HR futurist who has successfully transitioned from building a global HR search firm to focusing on well-being. He co-founded ChapmanCG, one of the world's most reputable HR search companies, which was acquired in 2022. Now, he is the creator of MC² Search, a well-being search company focused on developing a global talent pool of Chief Wellbeing Officers (CWOs), a role he believes will be part of the C-suite in future organizations. Matt’s passion for well-being extends beyond business; he was one of the creators of Bawah Reserve, an acclaimed wellness resort, and has completed six 250km ultra-marathons. He believes in using modern technology to empower talent and new-age business possibilities through remote working, a philosophy he has practiced since 2008.
